North Highland Way - the true story

The true story of the North Highland Way, a proposed walking, horse riding and cycling route across the north of Scotland will be published in a new book in 2024. The North Highland Way was first mooted in 1992 and failed to take a hold due to land owner issues.  Since then, then there has been a lot of work done, and a lot of skulduggery as well.  All documents were given to this journalist in around 2010 and she put them on a secret blog, not really interested after trying her best for two years.  In spite of the launch of the Caithness and Sutherland Walking festival (2003 to 2008) being very successful, this journalist made no money at all.  It didn't matter then, she owned the bed and breakfast at Dunnet Head.

The North Highland Way is such a big project, and an excellent one, but still no funding, and too much local bickering.  The Highland Council does its best, as does Nature Scot.  However some people are so hell bent on destroying the project because an incomer is in charge, they forget the big picture.
